TV Anhanguera in Brazil chooses CIS Group and Mimir to modernize its archive

Davie, FL – April 3, 2024 – In a strategic move to transform its archival processes, TV Anhanguera has partnered with CIS Group and Mimir for a comprehensive modernization of its archive system. Celebrating six decades of broadcasting, TV Anhanguera serves as the central hub for a network of 11 stations across the states of Goiás and Tocantins in Brazil, all of which are affiliates of the prominent TV Globo. The project was designed, deployed, and supported by Mimir’s partner in Brazil, CIS Group.

“The choice of a MAM solution that would allow us to transition our assets, approximately 2 Petabytes of data, from LTO to a new cloud-based architecture, was decisive. The integration developed by Kunnusta with Mimir allowed us to use advanced AI-powered cataloging capabilities with the coexistence of our legacy archive. Now TV Anhanguera can count on an optimized archiving workflow supported by future-proof technology” stated Luis Duarte, CTO at TV Anhanguera.

Longstanding challenges with an aging archiving system, which had been in use for approximately 15 years, prompted TV Anhanguera to seek a transformation. The legacy system’s infrastructure and technical architecture led to challenges and inconsistencies during the decoupage process, hindering operations. Faced with the costly and laborious task of migrating data to newer LTO generations, the broadcaster sought an alternative and found it in cloud-based archiving solutions, offering enhanced security, scalability, and a cost-effective opex model.

In order to ensure a successful project, CIS Group proposed an innovative approach to Anhanguera’s archive use case, and facilitated a multi-month POC process for a comprehensive evaluation of the system. The solutions chosen were Mimir, and Kunnusta—entities under the Fonn Group umbrella. Utilizing Mimir’s fully cloud-native Media Asset Management (MAM) system, TV Anhanguera now benefits from seamless integrations with various cognitive (AI) services from leading cloud providers, including speech-to-text, translation, and facial recognition capabilities. Moreover, Mimir’s compatibility with both on-premise and cloud storage ensures a flexible archiving process at a fraction of the cost.

“Over the last couple of years we have seen a lot of our customers re-evaluate their archive and asset preservation strategies. With the tools that are available in the MediaTech space these days, it’s extremely important to be able to map the most appropriate technology for a particular customer’s use case. Working hand-in-hand with TV Anhanguera and the teams at Fonn Group, CIS did exactly that for this project, enabling TV Anhanguera to implement a solution that not only optimizes their archiving workflows today, but also future-proofs their environment,” said Matt Silva, CEO at CIS Group.

Kunnusta’s expertise was instrumental in the transition, facilitating the migration of the entire database and proxy videos from the legacy archive system to Mimir’s cloud platform. The phased migration of assets that were archived in LTO addresses TV Anhanguera’s operational needs in such a way that reinforces the broadcaster’s commitment to consistently seek tech-enabled operational efficiencies that generate business value for their organization.

“TV Anhanguera are blazing trails in cloud production in South America. By leveraging AI to enrich their archive assets and cloud-powered workflows to eliminate tape archives, they have acquired a flexible and durable asset management approach for years to come,” says Eduardo Mancz, CEO Fonn Group America.

Mimir’s solution stands out for its integration of multiple storage levels, including on-premise and cloud buckets, all managed via a single platform. This approach not only simplifies the archiving workflow but also leverages cognitive cloud services for metadata enrichment, such as transcription, facial recognition, celebrity detection, and OCR. As a cloud-based solution, Mimir is accessible from anywhere, providing TV Anhanguera’s staff with unmatched flexibility and security.

The cloud archiving strategy ensures that TV Anhanguera’s content is safeguarded against loss, with costs incurred based solely on usage. The implementation of automated cognitive services during the archiving process has positioned the “CEDOC” (archive) department at the forefront of technology, streamlining operations significantly. As a result, TV Anhanguera now enjoys the convenience of remote asset access, media flow automation, seamless data migration, and the sophisticated use of artificial intelligence for content search and data enrichment.
