The University of Michigan is one of the top public research institutions in the United States and houses nearly 20 individual colleges.  Researchers at the Brooks Lab alone have produced almost 400 publications since 1980. The Brooks Lab has rotated through data storage options, but has relied solely on Spectra Logic enterprise tape and disk solutions to record and archive critical research data for 7 years.

University of South Dakota (USD) operates two supercomputer systems, the Lawrence Supercomputer and the Legacy Supercomputer. To manage a growing supercomputing infrastructure and expanding user base, USD launched the South Dakota Data Store (SDDS) project with two service tiers. To store their research data, USD deployed a Spectra® Verde® NAS solution, BlackPearl® Converged Storage System and a T380 Tape Library with LTO drives.

While the Advanced Computing Center for Research and Education (ACCRE) operates separately from Vanderbilt University Information Technology, it processes data from over 50 departments & centers and over 850 researchers across the University. Previously performing nightly backups to an IBM® TS3500 tape library, ACCRE upgraded their system to a Spectra® T950 Tape Library with 11 LTO-8 tape drives and an additional media frame.
